Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps has announced via Instagram on Sunday that he is now engaged with Miss California USA 2010, Nicole Johnson.

According to ESPN, Phelps uploaded a picture of him and Johnson lying on the snow with the caption, “She said yes.”

Page Six has also reported that the couple have been dating since 2009 but broke up in 2012 before getting back together again.

Phelps and Johnson were not the only one excited for the engagement. It seems like Phelps’s sister, Hilary Phelps is ready to have a sister-in-law as well.

“Congratulations to these two lovebirds on their engagement! Couldn’t be happier for my brother and thrilled to gain a sister, who I adore and love already!” she posted on Facebook.

The engagement comes right after the 22-time Olympic medallist had gotten out from a six-month suspension from the USA swimming team for being arrested for the second time for drunk driving.
He is also banned from this Summer’s world championships that will be held in Russia.

The 29-year-old swimmer was on hiatus after the 2012 London Olympics, but resumed his training in 2013. He then continued competing again starting from last April in Mesa, bringing back another three gold medals and two silvers at the Pan Pacific.

Soon, he will be preparing himself to compete at the upcoming Rio Games as well as the 2016 Olympics.
