According to Film Business Asia, Hong Kong’s Motion Picture Industry Association (MPIA) recently revealed that Sandra Ng’s “Golden Chickensss” was the biggest selling movie last year, with a box office record of HKD 41.3 million (approximately USD 5.32 million), followed by Chow Yun Fat-led “From Vegas to Macau” (HKD 33.6 million), and Donnie Yen’s “The Monkey King” (HKD 25.6 million).
Three Lunar New Year 2014 movies were revealed to be the highest grossing movies in Hong Kong in 2014.
However, the numbers only proved that the box office remained stagnant, with only 1.32 percent increase from last year’s annual box office revenue.
Coming up at number four is Sean Lau and Louis Koo’s “Overheard 3” (HKD 23.9 million), while Janice Man’s “The Midnight After” grabs the fifth spot with HKD 21.3 million.
For Louis Koo, aside from his lead role in “Overheard 3” and his cameo in “Golden Chickensss”, the actor also made a cameo in two other movies in the list – “Hello Babies” (HKD 18.2 million) and “Naked Ambition 3D” (HKD 16.1 million), which made it to the 7th and 10th spots, respectively.
Meanwhile, Nick Cheung’s “That Demon Within” and “Temporary Family” are placed consecutively at 8th and 9th place.
