He already created Facebook, the largest social networking site in the world, and now he has created a book club that could become the world’s largest book club!
Co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg recently created a book club on Facebook named “A Year of Books” which is part of his 2015 New Year resolution.
“My challenge for 2015 is to read a new book every other week — with an emphasis on learning about different cultures, beliefs, histories and technologies,” Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.
The idea was suggested by Cynthia Greco, the head of marketing at UCP of South Central PA, who suggested for Zukerberg to read “one book a month that another person chooses”.
“I’m excited for my reading challenge. I’ve found reading books very intellectually fulfilling. Books allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today. I’m looking forward to shifting more of my media diet towards reading books,” he added.
Zuckerberg invited all of his Facebook followers to join him in his book club where they can discuss about the book and issues relevant to the book that they are reading.
The page which was created last Sunday, 3 January 2015 has now over 170,000 likes.
The first book on the reading list is “The End of Power” by Moisés Naím. Zuckerberg explained that the book “explores how the world is shifting to give individual people more power that was traditionally only held by large governments, militaries and other organizations.”
Zuckerberg announced his first book on Sunday and on the next day, the paperback edition of “The End of Power” temporarily ran out of stock on Amazon.com. Now, the book is in the top 20 of Amazon’s Best Seller Books, Forbes reports.
