In honour of the passengers and crew of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, Amsterdam has recently launched a design competition for a memorial.
Launched in association with Matterbetter, the architectural competition is opened to all architects, students, engineers, and designers, The Rakyat Post reports.
The submissions deadline for the competition is 10 December 2014, and the winner will be announced on 20 January 2015.
The Marine Establissement site in the city center, which is a 350-year-old Dutch Navy Base, has been chosen as the memorial location. Man-made to accommodate a large shipyard and situated on the island of Kattenburg, a landscape park will also be incorporated into the memorial site as a way of transforming the former military site into a place for the public.
MH17 was a scheduled international passenger flight flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it was shot down over Ukraine on 17 July, 2014. All 298 on board perished in the tragedy.
