Due to her position as one of the main singers in the popular Korean girl group Girls’ Generation (SNSD), one would think it would be quite impossible for Jessica Jung to be unceremoniously dropped from the group.
Then again, the group consists of at least five strong singers, maybe Jessica’s absence won’t be such a loss.

The girls’ agency SM Entertainment, one of the top entertainment agencies dominating South Korea, is definitely thinking along that line as the 25-year-old is no longer a part of the group effective yesterday.

Jessica’s fans were bewildered when on 30 September, she posted on her Weibo – a Chinese social networking site on which she has a following of more than 3 million followers – that her (ex-)manager informed her she did not have to attend the group’s fan meeting in China as she was no longer an SNSD member.
“Wait, what?”
Fans first dismissed it as a hacker’s job, not believing that the close-knit girl group which was widely known for their strong “Soshi-bond” could be facing such turmoil. Besides, the girls have just renewed their contracts so the possibility of departure was low. But after SM Entertainment released its official statement and the war of statements started raging from both sides, fans eventually learnt that the drama was a bitter reality pill that they will have to swallow.
It is alleged that the reason for the sudden termination of Jessica’s SNSD status is because of her hectic personal life, which clashes with SNSD’s demanding schedule. The singer has just recently launched her own wildly successful fashion line Blanc back in August, is planning to study fashion in New York and also rumoured to be marrying alleged boyfriend, Tyler Kwon – though Tyler has since posted on his Weibo denying the rumour once again, after clearing it up not so long ago when the two were spotted wearing their “engagement” rings.

Jessica has been a prominent part of the group for the past seven years. Girls’ Generation or also known as SNSD, an abbreviation of its Korean name SoNyeoShiDae, is affectionately called by South Korea as the Nation’s girl group due to the group’s massive popularity. SNSD is one of the most successful idol groups in South Korea, with Forbes Korea even ranking the group as Korea’s #1 power celebrity.
Consisting of 9 members: Taeyeon, Jessica, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona and Seohyun; the group debuted in 2007 and had their major breakthrough in 2009 with the song “Gee”. Since then, the group has been churning out chart toppers such as “I Got A Boy” and “Mr. Mr.”.
