Co-owned by Simon Cowell’s SYCOtv company and FremantleMedia, talent show “Got Talent” is expanding its franchise to the region of Asia by making a deal with Sony Pictures Television to create “Asia’s Got Talent”.
In April 2014, “Got Talent” was named the world’s most successful reality TV format ever by the Guinness World Records, spawning spin-offs in over 58 countries.
Variety reported that “Asia’s Got Talent” will arrive to Sony’s AXN channel early next year and the show will include contestants from thirteen countries with auditions to begin this month in major cities such as Jakarta, Indonesia; Singapore; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Manila, Philippines; and Bangkok, Thailand.
General Manager and senior vice president of Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia, Ang Hui Keng said in a statement,
“Talent has a thrilling new home on AXN and we’re excited to provide the ideal platform for contestants to showcase their skills in front of our huge regional fan base. Asia is an incredible melting pot of exceptional talent so we look forward to discovering the next generation of Asia-based stars on AXN.”
Simon Cowell also commented in an interview, “There is an incredible amount of talent around the world at the moment and that’s why we make the shows.”
There will be three auditions held this month in three countries;
- Malaysia, Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus in Kuala Lumpur, 0900 – 1900, 28 September 2014
- Singapore, Marina Bay Sands in Sands Theater, 1030 – 1930, 27 September 2014.
- Philippines, SMX Convention Center in Manilla, 1000 – 1800, 28 September 2014.
