Hello Kitty turns 40, celebrates with 5km run in Singapore
Hello Kitty turns 40 this year!
Still as pink and cute as ever, the Sanrio cartoon character is celebrating its 40th birthday with a 5 kilometer run in Singapore.
The bow-wearing kitty proves its popularity is no joke as all 15,000 slots for the run were taken up within 24 hours of it being announced. Even the considerably steep fees – SGD 65 for pre-registration and another SGD 70 for the official registration later – do not deter fans from taking part in the special event.
An exclusive runner’s T-shirt and a special edition commemorative Hello Kitty plush toy will be given to each runner.
The run will take place on 1 November 2014. Even though there is no official route map yet, the organiser Pink Apple states that the run will be along a scenic route that will take runners pass iconic landmarks.
Apart from the run, there will be special birthday cake and birthday song prepared for the occasion. There will also be fringe activities, such as a Hello Kitty Village, at the event.
However, this is not the only run that is held in conjunction with Hello Kitty’s big 40. Two were previously held in Taipei and Kaohsiung back in January and July 2014. Another two will take place at the birth country of Hello Kitty, Japan, by the end of this year. The run in Taichung will take place on the same day as Singapore’s.

Doesn’t this get your blood pumping to run along with the cat too? Oh hold up, don’t call her a cat because Hello Kitty isn’t one!
Sanrio has made a mind-blowing revelation – Hello Kitty is a “little girl” and not a cat, as it has never been depicted as walking on all fours and it even has its own pet cat, Charmmy Kitty.
So…the whole world has had it wrong for the past 40 years?
