8 actors who live double lives as DJs!
Most actors we know have a knack for singing; like Anne Hathaway, Hugh Jackman, Kristen Bell, Amanda Seyfried and more, but those are pretty common. We've seen plenty of actors who can sing, dance and act all at the same time – it pretty much comes in a package!
But apart from that, did you know that some actors actually have a talent for something even more unusual, like DJ-ing?
So, are you ready to learn which talented actors have the passion for spinning the decks?
Check out the eight of them below!
1. Idris Elba AKA DJ Big Driis
In the EDM world, Idris Elba is known as Big Driis the Londoner and has produced songs for several of his past films. Believe it or not, the 43-year-old actor actually started his music career first before going into acting. Though he became known through his acting, he never gave up on his music career. Elba so far has produced four EPs, one mixtape and one full studio album. He has also worked with various renowned musicians including Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, K. Michelle, Noel Fielding and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.
2. Elijah Wood AKA DJ Frodo
Although he is known for his high-profile leading role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson's epic film trilogy “The Lord of the Rings”, Elijah Wood is also a well-known DJ who performs together with his friend Zach Cowie under a DJ project called Wooden Wisdom. Due to his famous role in “The Lord of the Rings”, fans have been calling him DJ Frodo, even though the actor himself never admitted to calling himself that. The duo have played at various renowned music festivals like Coachella, Bushmills Live, Pre-Emmy parties and more.
3. Ansel Elgort AKA DJ Ansolo
Young heartthrob Ansel Elgort proves that he is more than just a talented actor as he is also good at spinning! Performing under the name Ansolo, the 22-year-old goes from being known as Caleb Prior in “The Divergent” series and Augustus Waters in “The Fault in Our Stars”, to an EDM household name. With support from huge EDM names like Nicky Romero, Martin Garrix, Afrojack and Steve Angello, Ansolo has already performed at two major music festivals; Electric Zoo Festival and Ultra Music Festival within two years of his music career.
4. Kristian Nairn AKA DJ Hodor
Like Elijah Wood, Kristian Nairn was given the name DJ Hodor by fans due to his portrayal of the character Hodor in the famous HBO fantasy series “Game of Thrones”. Nairn is most known for his DJ set “Rave of Thrones” in which he samples sounds using his repetitive lines in the “Game of Thrones” series. The 40-year-old Irish DJ has performed in various countries around the world including Singapore, Philippines, Australia, England and more.
5. Michelle Rodriguez AKA DJ MRod
The “Fast & Furious” actress doesn’t have an official DJ name, but some people have been calling her DJ MRod, taken from her Instagram account. The 38-year-old actress certainly knows how to play her game and she has been DJ-ing at private parties as a hobby for quite some time now. She also has quite a reputation as a DJ as she previously played at important events like the Cannes Film Festival and Grand Prix.
6. Paris Hilton
Not only is she a successful businesswoman, socialite, television personality, model, actress, singer, and author – but also a DJ! Paris debuted her DJ career in 2012 thanks to DJ Afrojack whom she dated for a while back then. When she initially began her DJ career, she was heavily criticised by many mainstream DJs including ex-boyfriend Afrojack, Deadmau5 and Samantha Ronson, but now, Paris has become one of the highest-paid celebrity DJs, holding club residencies all over the world. Paris Hilton has no specific DJ name.
7. Danny Masterson AKA DJ Mom Jeans
While many of us may know him from his role as Steven Hyde from “That ‘70s Show”, Masterson had actually started DJ-ing as a hobby in the late 90s. The name DJ Mom Jeans was taken from “That ‘70s Show”, as Mila Kunis and Laura Prepon had to wear mom jeans regularly during the show and he would always make fun of them. Masterson is a regular DJ at the famous annual music festival, Lollapalooza.
8. Joe Jonas AKA DJ Danger
After parting ways from The Jonas Brothers, Joe Jonas is testing the waters in the EDM world and has now joined the celebrity DJ club. He started DJ-ing in 2013 as a joke but now is taking the job very seriously. Apart from being a rising DJ, Joe has also recently formed a new band called DNCE who have released their debut single “Cake by the Ocean” in 2015
