Claire Danes is the real-life Cinderella at the 2016 Met Gala

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Gala, is one of the greatest fashion events of the year, and is also an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City.

Every year, the event will celebrate a certain theme, and invited celebrity guests and renowned personalities are expected to match the theme of the exhibit, though many of them have mistranslated the theme horribly.

This year, the theme of the Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” with Anna Wintour, chairwoman of the gala, Jonathan Ive, chief design officer of Apple, Taylor Swift and Idris Elba as the hosts.

This year, actress Claire Danes won the night for showcasing her beautiful Cinderella-like gown designed by her fairy godfather, designer Zac Posen.

The dress looks simple on the outside, but when all lights are turned off, the dress lights up from the inside, and it looks absolutely breathtaking!

Anyway, here are some of the other celebrity Met Gala looks, where some are on point and some have strayed far off from the theme!

So where's the 'technology' in this dress? Apparently, this Derek Lam gown has a laser-cut circular design and lace work - so fair enough!

Queen Bey wore a nude latex dress by Riccardo Tisci which is very unique in its own way but has nothing to do with the theme!

With her silver hair, Ciara looks like an elegant robot from the future with her Swarovski-studded H&M dress.

This is how Claire Danes' dress looks like when the lights are on!

And when the lights are off - ta daa!

Emma Watson's dress is truly unique indeed! Why? Because it is made from recycled plastic bottles by Calvin Klein.

Futuristic couple of the year? Gigi rocks a metallic Tommy Hilfiger gown while Zayn wears armored sleeves over his Versace tuxedo.

Kate Hudson wows the crowd with her cut-out bridal inspired white gown which doesn't exactly fit the theme, but she certainly looks stunning!

Wearing a Prada gown featuring an array of charms, trinkets and belts, Katy Perry looks like a queen - an evil queen from the future!

Kim K wore a robot-inspired Balmain dress, and she looks like a bling-y sexy robot!

Another sexy robot! Like her sister Kim, Kylie also wore a Balmain dress but it is slightly see-through.

Lady Gaga is a futuristic rock star!

Instead of the dress, people will be focusing on her hair which kind of resembles Marge Simpson.

Madonna sort of flashes her butt and boobs which is not something unusual for her, but her hair and headpiece is inspired from the Queen Khaleesi from "Game of Thrones"!

Nicole Kidman dazzles everyone with her bejeweled dress. She looks like the queen of moon and stars!

Rita Ora is a silver phoenix in a Vera Wang feathered gown.

Solange Knowles gives a shout-out to her sister Beyonce by dressing up in a bright yellow ensemble, which seems like a reference to Bey's new album, "Lemonade".

Taylor Swift looks like a futuristic gladiator!

Apart from Claire Danes, Zoe Saldana also blew the internet away with her stunning peacock-inspired dress!

  1. Although this place is probably not cheap, but they are centrally located, have fabulous staff and delicious food, and most importantly, the best views of the city. I would definitely recommend venues in Atlanta for any kind of fancy event – all my friends talked about throwing parties here only.
