“The Revenant” is Oscars 2016’s top nominee

After sweeping major awards at the recent Golden Globes, "The Revenant" is showing its roaring power once again as it comes out top on the Oscars 2016 nomination list.

The Leonardo DiCaprio-starrer garnered 12 nominations in total. That's two more than second lead, George Miller's "Mad Max: Fury Road", which is nominated in 10 categories.

Coming in third is "The Martian", with 7 nominations. All three are, of course, part of the contenders for Best Picture.

Apart from "The Revenant" – which had a limited opening weekend ahead of its wide release to qualify it for this year's Oscars – another December release, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", also managed to garner as much as five nominations.
