CLEO Australia closes down, what about Malaysia and Singapore?
Women’s fashion magazine CLEO is expected to close down in Australia after 44 years in print.
The sudden announcement comes days after its publisher Bauer Media Group brushed off the rumours of its closure as “complete speculations” on ABC.
However, the company then issue a statement confirming the move with the last issue being the March edition, on sale from 22 February 2016.
Bauer assures that the closure of the CLEO Australia would not, in any way, impact CLEO Singapore, Malaysia or Indonesia, which were bought by SPH Magazines in 2011.
The company however would continue to publish CLEO Thailand through its joint venture with Post International Media.
Although the company said that the closing down of the Australian edition would not affect the other country’s edition, it is hard to know if that’s the case because after FHM – Bauer’s monthly men’s lifestyle magazine – recently closed down in the U.K, and shortly after, the Malaysian FHM also followed its lead.
Singaporean FHM however, has closed down way before FHM UK made the announcement.
The cover of the final issue of CLEO Australia for the March edition will feature Rebel Wilson.
