Klang Valley malls deck halls with X’mas deco

‘Tis the season to be jolly~ It’s Christmas time again and in Malaysia this means it is time to deck the malls in festive décor.

Usually the bigger malls in the Klang Valley area would all be bringing their A-game, decorating with Santas and elves and reindeers and of course, Christmas trees. Going one step further, one mall even installed an ice-skating rink! (Find out which mall below).

Last year, we have showed how some of the malls looked like all glammed up for Christmas. So it is only fitting that this year, we bring you the 2015 edition of Klang Valley malls’ Christmas decorations.

1. Suria KLCC

It’s all things sweet at Suria KLCC this year as the mall gets decked with candies, cookies and gingerbread men. Little kids will definitely be brightened up by the presence of Santa Claus as he walks around taking selfies with shoppers.

Up until this 26 December, shoppers will also be treated to performances that include the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Caroling, Sweet Christmas Ballet and more. Of course, what is Christmas without a tree? The mall also boasts a Malaysia Book of Records-certified Tallest Christmas Tree Replica in the country!

2. Avenue K

Located a stone's throw away from KLCC is Avenue K with its white winter wonderland. With giant, fluffy teddy bears dotting the mall and snowflakes dangling in the air, it is unmistakably merry in the mall. However, that is not all, you might have to stay clear of the escalators at certain times because they will soon have the purple-hooded Enaj Dancers prancing up and down them as singer Joy Victor serenades the crowd with her powerful renditions of Christmas songs.

The crowd will also no doubt be mesmerised by the aerialists’ performance on a hoop that hangs from the ceiling. The White Christmas Performance takes place on Saturdays and Sundays at 4pm.

3. Pavilion KL

If last year, a tall (very tall) Santa was the mall’s centerpiece, this year Pavilion pulled out all the stops to bring Malaysia – nah, Asia – the Tallest Swarovski Christmas Tree in the continent. Made of 175,000 Swarovski crystals, the 23m tall and 7.5m wide Christmas tree shines brightly in the centre court, living up to this year’s theme, “Christmas Sparkles”. The dazzling beauty enters Malaysia Book of Records as the tallest Swarovski Christmas tree.

Underneath the Christmas tree, children clamber onto Santa’s lap to wish for their gifts. Outside, everything glitters bright as the decorations are reminiscent of a snowy day. Silvery white arches and reindeers greet shoppers at the entrance of the mall. Want to experience real snow? (Well, almost real). Then visit the mall at 8pm daily for its special snowfall, taking place until Christmas Day itself.

4. Fahrenheit 88

Not to be outdone by its glitzy neighbour, Fahrenheit 88 stands out by doing something not many malls in Malaysia can brag about – having its own ice skating rink. What’s special about this rink is it is only there for the holiday, which means after 3 January 2016, the first ever synthetic ice skating rink in Bukit Bintang will no longer be available. Open to children and adults, the rink is located at Atrium, Ground Floor.

While elves usually stay hidden in Santa’s workshop, tinkering away on toys for nice little boys and girls, some join Santa as the mall’s Christmas décor this year.

5. Nu Sentral

In place of a tree, Nu Sentral mall has a stack of gifts! Also, a band of singing chipmunks. This Christmas is all about “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip” for Nu shoppers as there will be meet and greet session at the mall with the movie characters up until 3 January 2016.

Alvin, Simon and Theodore will also present some Christmas songs in their trademark high-pitched chipmunk voices. The décor follows the theme of the movie – road trip – so it’s all winding road and colourful blocks at the mall.

6. Paradigm Mall

It’s a Snoopy Christmas at this Petaling Jaya mall, not a surprise since the animated film, “Snoopy And Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie”, is opening in cinemas this 10 December. The décor here consists of Charlie Brown and his friends, and log cabins all around their tiny dwelling.

When Snoopy the lovable dog isn’t making an appearance at the mall, Santa will step in and entertain the crowd. Still, no celebration is complete without music. So shoppers are also entertained from time to time with harmonica performances.

7. 1 Utama Shopping Mall

It’s an Evergreen Christmas at 1 Utama Shopping Mall this year. The mall is decked with nature-friendly themed décor.

There’s even a whimsical Christmas Evergreen Garden where shoppers get to stroll around and admire the windmills, giant snowflakes and flowers. Shoppers will definitely be in a Christmas-y mood as they shop in the floral wonderland. If you’re in the mood for some Yuletide singing, there will be performances of it from time to time too.

8. Sunway Pyramid

Sunway Pyramid takes a different course this year as it dives deep underwater for inspiration. The mall is decorated with an Aquatic Wonderland to match its Christmas in Atlantic theme this year.

Decorated with corals, seaweeds and other aquatic plants (and not forgetting the Christmas trees), the décor will make shoppers feel like they are milling about under the sea. Apart from just Santa Claus, the mall’s lion mascots will also be taking selfies with Christmas shoppers.
