"Spurs" back in Malaysia after 35 years

English football club Tottenham Hotspur, fondly known as Spurs were welcomed back to Malaysia by the Official Malaysian Spurs Fanclub. This would be the first time since 1979 that the club has come to our shores. Spurs is down to play for the AIA CUP against the Malaysia XI on 27 May, 8.45pm at Stadium Shah Alam.

The Spurs arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) around 9.30am and had a brief press conference with the awaiting local media and fans at their hotel, Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

“To be here and see so many fans from around the world supporting us is fantastic,” said Christian Eriksen who is the team’s attacking midfielder, according to Tottenham Hotspur news page.

After the press conference, the team had a quick tour of Kuala Lumpur and enjoyed some of the local activities like playing Sepak Takraw, making and tasting Teh Tarik.

They then visited some local attractions such as the Central Market where they took pictures with some Malaysian fans and also with Malaysia's landmark skyscraper, the Petronas Twin Towers.

There is also a meet and greet as well as autograph-signing session at the team's hotel attended by members of the Malaysia Spurs club.

"Everyone is excited to meet fans who are so far away for England," said Nacer Chadli, the team’s winger. "It’s very good for the fans to be in touch with the players and to see us close-up rather than on television."

Today, AIA organised a meet and greet session for the Spurs fans at Magnum Cafe, Mid Valley. The players who were there to greet the fans were goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, star strikers Harry Kane , Eric Dier and Andros Townsend.

"We hope that our team will get into the top 4 next season and hopefully in the next 2 to 3 years, we can get closer to challenging the title," said Harry Kane during the meet and greet session.

The team is excited to be able to visit Malaysia and is looking forward to a good match with the Malaysian team which will take place at Shah Alam stadium tonight at 8.45pm.
