Elena of Avalor is Disney’s first Latina princess
There is a new Disney princess in the house and she is Princess Elena of Avalor, Disney’s very first Latina princess!
Last Thursday, Disney announced that Princess Elena of Avalor will make her debut on a special episode of “Sofia the First” TV series which will be aired next year.
For those of you who didn’t know, Princess Sofia is a young girl who becomes a princess when her mother, Miranda, marries King Roland II of the kingdom of Enchancia.
When Sofia came into the royal family, she was entrusted with the mystical Amulet of Avalor which gave her the ability to speak to animals and summons other Disney Princesses such as Ariel, Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Aurora and others.
Now, Sofia will finally learn the truth behind the magical amulet.
According to E!, Elena is described as “bold, caring, funny and clever… a confident and compassionate teenager in an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore.”
After her debut in “Sofia the First”, Elena will be getting her own series on the same year.
Disney princess line-up has previously included an Arab princess (Jasmine from “Aladdin”), Native American princess (Pocahontas), Chinese heroine (Mulan), African-American princess (Tiana from “Princess and the Frog”), French princess (Belle from “Beauty and the Beast”) but no Hispanic princess to date.
