M’sian government wants to give you RM30K to play Dota


Get ready, Malaysian gamers! The Selangor Cyber Games (SCG) is happening this 13 and 14 December 2014 with some amazing cash prizes to be won!

After a Malaysian won third place at “The International 2013 DOTA 2 Championship” last year and received a cash prize total of USD287,438 (RM990,511.35), the government has begun to acknowledge and support the existence of e-Sports, Says reports.

Therefore, SCG is the first gaming event in Malaysia that is supported by the government who is funding more than RM30,000 in cash prizes for the event!

Taking place at Encorp Strand Mall in Kota Damansara, the games that will be featured in the event include Dota 2, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends and FIFA 15.

The cash prizes for each game are as follows:-


Dota 2 Qualifier
  • 1st Place: RM 3,000 + Logitech G430 + Grand Finals slot
  • 2nd Place: RM 1,500 + Logitech G402 + Grand Finals slot
  • 3rd Place: RM 1,000
  • 4th Place: RM 500

Dota 2 Grand Final
  • 1st Place: RM 10,000
  • 2nd Place: RM 5,000
  • 3rd Place: RM 1,500
  • 4th Place: RM 1,000


League of Legends
  • 1st Place: RM 1,000
  • 2nd Place: RM 700
  • 3rd Place: RM 400
  • 4th Place: RM 100


Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • 1st Place: RM 1,000
  • 2nd Place: RM 700
  • 3rd Place: RM 400
  • 4th Place: RM 100


FIFA '15
  • 1st Place: RM 1,000
  • 2nd Place: RM 700
  • 3rd Place: RM 400
  • 4th Place: RM 100

Dota 2 has the highest prize pool with a total amount of RM RM23,500 while the other games will each have a total of RM2,200.

According to Malaysia Kini, “The government hopes by organising this programme it promotes the growth of e-Sports in the state and produces a young generation that is active and competitive,” quoting Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
