Premarital programme to be made compulsory in Malaysia
Oh, you want to get married? Well, it’s not going to be easy anymore…because now you have to attend a pre-marriage course before you tie the knot!
SmartStart, a two-day premarital programme created to prevent and reduce marital breakups will be made compulsory for all races in Malaysia before the end of 2015.
The news was reported by the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim during the officiating at the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women 2014, Bernama reports.
She revealed that the minister is currently in the process of discussion regarding the matter with various parties which include the Malaysia Islamic Development Department (Jakim) and other religious institutions.
"The course module has been implemented by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) since May 2003 for all races to provide newly married couples or those intending to marry soon with the knowledge and skills required in married life. The ministry is confident that with couples attending the SmartStart course, marital problems can be reduced," said Datuk Seri Rohani.
