5 Malaysian singers breaking international charts

Who knew that there are quite a number of local Malaysian singers whose songs have placed on the international charts?

The music industry in Malaysia is slowly but surely expanding worldwide, especially since some of our local singers have started gaining international popularity.

Playing their music in countries like U.S., U.K., Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, and others, these singers truly make Malaysia proud with their songs that manage to claim a place on the international charts.

When we talk about local singers that have broken the barriers to a new and wider fan base, many names come to mind, but here are the 5 to look out for:

You might or might’ve not heard of her name, but Dasha Logan is actually the daughter of the late Loganathan Arumugam who was one of the founding members and vocalist of the Malaysian band, Alleycats. Her very first single, “Cleverly”, has cleverly (pun intended) landed at fourth place on the U.K. Soul charts, according to The Star. Dasha revealed that she wrote the lyrics of the song herself. Making her dad proud, she also said that she will be releasing another song next year and plans on working on an album with British label, Areaboy.

2. Gerard Singh

You might have seen this crooner singing at the local pub/bar circuit as Gerard Singh has been singing and making songs for quite a long time. Gerard used to also play in a local band called The Union, playing cover songs in smaller venues, but now he has finally struck gold. According to Vents, his latest single, “Crazy” had entered the Billboard Indicator Charts at number 82 in its first week of release. His song was produced by Floyd “Timeless” Thomas who produced over 12 Billboard charting singles. You can now listen to Gerard’s deep and soothing voice as his single is now available on iTunes. Plus, the lyric video is already streaming on YouTube too.
