Nudist sports game in Penang causing controversy

Q: So what’s your favourite suit?
A: My birthday suit!
Q: Welcome to the club.

That scene must play out a lot in a nudist club.

A video showing a group of Asian nudists having some fun under the Malaysian sun – sans clothes obviously – has gone viral and not everybody’s happy with the “free show”.

The video was filmed during their “Nudist Sports Game 2014” which was held on 30 May 2014 in Teluk Bahang, Penang. The five minutes and twenty-six seconds clip showed the group, which includes four females, taking parts in activities such as body painting, crab walking, dancing and so on.

Albert, a user of Vimeo, uploaded the nudist clip on the video sharing platform along with the description “For once we really get to enjoy the natural environment and atmosphere just as how nature intended it to be.”

Albert is speculated to be Albert Yam, a member of Naturism in Singapore. According to his profile on meetup.com, he has been a nudist for 20 years and even organises nudist events. A Wikipedia entry under the title “List of social nudity places in Asia” mentions that Albert has organised nude hiking events to Mt. Cheras. Under the same title, it is stated that the controversial nudist sports game in Penang was said to have been organised by one Ms. Lydia.

The Star reported that Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state government was not aware of the event. An event for nudists could not have been approved by the state when even a casino gets no greenlight. Lim added, “If they are Muslims, we shall leave it to the religious departments and police, and if they are non-Muslims, let the police act.”

Anybody looking forward to watching the video will have to face disappointment; it has been set to private following the controversy.

Angered Perkasa members have lodged a police report over the video.
