Estonian model murdered in Pulau Rawa, Mersing
Regina Soosalu, an Estonian freelance model, age 30 was found dead after her body was discovered at Pulau Rawa, Mersing on 1 July 2014.
According to The Star, Johor CID chief Senior Assistant Commander, Datuk Hasnan Hassan initially thought her death was caused by drowning, however, after discovering suspicious wounds and bruises on her body, the police changed their investigations of the death as murder.
"We can confirm that the woman arrived at Pulau Rawa on July 1 and died on the same day. We have also detained six person to assist with investigations,” said Datuk Hasnan Hassan.
The Star also reported that Soosalu, who lived in Kuala Lumpur was believed to have been on the island for a holiday, however, sources in the modeling industry reported that she died on 1 July but her death was only made known to them only on 6 July 2014.
Soosalu’s boyfriend, Tengku Alang Reza expressed his sadness on Facebook, “Regina my love has passed away on July 1, in the holy month of Ramadan. She is my love, my best friend and will continue to be my inspiration for the rest of my life.”

Senior Assistant Commander Hasnan said that they have yet to detain Soosalu’s boyfriend, who could be one of the alleged suspects. He further mentioned that, “We have informed Interpol about the incident and we have left it to them to contact her family. “
Further investigations are being carried on. Currently, the police are waiting for the post-mortem report.
