One month free entry to see the pandas at Zoo Negara


There is chance that the public will given the opportunity to visit the famous panda couple of Malaysia. According to Bernama, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, will allow the public free entry to visit the giant pandas for one month after he had given them new names. The names are expected to be given by the Prime Minister on June 25.

The minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Datuk Seri G. Palanivel said he will propose the issue to the Malaysian Zoological Society in honour of the presence of the pandas, Fu Wa and Feng Yi in Malaysia

 “I will speak with Zoo Negara president (Datuk Seri Zaharin Md Arif) to allow free entry to the public for one month. We will limit 1,200 people to see the pandas daily or 200 people per 20-minute visit,” said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri G. Palanivel to the reporters after opening the Malaysian Water Resources Management Forum 2014, on Monday.

He futher mentioned that, after one month, the public who wish to see the panda may be charged RM20 for adults and RM10 for children.

The pandas loaned by the Chinese government are placed in a special area at Zoo Negara to allow them to adjust themselves in the new environment. By 21 or 22 June the two pandas will be moved to another location prior to the opening ceremony by the Prime Minister.

Based on the reports by The Malay Mail, Zoo Negara chairman of Administration, Human Resource and Education, Rosly Ahmat Lana said that the pandas would be given new Malaysian names and there will be a contest for the public to choose the most suitable names leading up to the opening.
